Hacienda Nagsiche
We are located in the Cotopaxi province in the Mulalillo parish, 90 minutes from Ecuador's capital, Quito, and 20 minutes from Ambato.
Nagsiche boasts an enviable microclimate, with year-round spring-like air, and features two-century-old houses, carved stone stables, a park of flowers and fruits, a bullring, a lagoon, and the recreation of an inter-Andean village.
The Hacienda Nagsiche was initially occupied by Franciscan and Jesuit monks until the latter were expelled from the country in 1852 by the Urbina government. Over the years, several buildings have been constructed within the hacienda, each featuring a different style: Colonial, Republican, and Contemporary. Many of its structures have been preserved as they originally were.
History
It appears to be one of the oldest haciendas in its region, carrying over 200 years of history. The etymology of the name "Nagsiche," which is said to be an aphorism meaning "no more," is particularly fascinating. This term was reportedly used by the Panzaleo and the Inca peoples to express that their plentiful harvests and the lands they possessed were sufficient.
